Week 3: 'Student led' Ako Hiko Parent Workshop

Kia orana bloggers

Four of our very own students facilitated one of our Ako Hiko parent meetings today. They were Janine, JD, Nathaniel (all year five students) and Brooklyn (year four).

Their fabulous workshop gave parents the opportunity to upskill themselves in google docs, screencastify and develop their digital footprint.

Here are some photos of from today

Feel free to have a browse through the presentation below

It is great to see you all taking time to help parents learn about what you do with screencastify and google docs. They certainly weren't around when I went to school.

    1. Hi Nathaniel sorry for the reply delay. The internet wasn't around when I went to school; everything was pen paper and books. The closest thing to being able to search was encyclopedias which were books with an index. You had to have a whole set and lot of things weren't in them at all. The other way to find things out was to go to the library. When I went to High School we had a computer. Chrome is even newer than that alot of high school students don't even know what a chromebook is.

  3. Kia ora Pohatu class,
I am very impressed - Janine, JD, Nathaniel and Brooklyn - well done! You must have felt very proud being the facilitators of the parents learning. I am sure they were very keen to learn from you as you are such experts! How did the parents go? Did they get a chance to use google docs and screencastify? Did they google themselves and ensure they had a good digital footprint? I would love to hear some feedback on how you felt it went. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Hey Pohatu class,
What a fantastic idea to have some of your students lead this for the parents! I think that the parents would have loved learning from you! Was there anything you would add to your presentation next time or do differently? Was it scary to talk to such a large group of people?
