Week 8: Banana Po'e

Ia ora na. Maita'i oe? Hello. How are you?

As part of our study on French Polynesia we made a popular French Polynesian dish called Banana Po'e. Each of us noticed that it tasted very similar to another Cook Island dish called Banana Pokē. Do you know of any other banana dishes that look similar to this one?

The recipe can be found by following the link below The Polynesian Kitchen - Banana Po'e Recipe

  1. Talofa,
Mmmmmm I'm not sure about the 'look' of banana po'e BUT it sounds like it would be delicious. I do like banana and coconut LOTS so I think this would be something I would try. Did you all like it? It looks like you are mashing bananas but then in the other photo it looks like the bananas are whole. Did the mashed bananas go on top?

    1. Hi Tania. Most of us enjoyed the banana po'e. However some people found the consistency quite off putting. The banana in the coconut cream has been mashed, had tapioca added, cooked and then it has been cut into squares. If you ever come to Hay Park School one day we would like to make some so you can taste it. From Pohatu Class
